7-Day Spiti Adventure: Chandigarh to the Valley

Start your adventure early in the morning from Chandigarh. The drive to Manali takes around 8–10 hours, covering approximately 310 km through the scenic Himalayan foothills. On the way, you will pass by lush green valleys, rivers, and quaint villages. Travelers often prefer hiring a tempo traveler for group trips or a taxi for a more comfortable and private journey. Overnight stay in Manali.

Today, you will begin the challenging yet breathtaking journey towards the Spiti Valley. Early morning, leave Manali and drive via the Rohtang Pass, known for its snow-capped peaks and stunning vistas. The route passes through Gramphu, Batal, and Chandratal Lake (optional detour), offering plenty of photo opportunities. You can hire a tempo traveler if traveling with family or friends, or a taxi if you prefer flexibility for stops. Reach Kaza in the evening and check in at a guesthouse or homestay.

Spend the day exploring Kaza, the heart of Spiti Valley. Visit Key Monastery, one of the largest and oldest monasteries in the region, and Kibber Village, which is famous for its wildlife and scenic views. If time permits, you can also visit Langza Village with its iconic Buddha statue and fossil-rich landscape. Local sightseeing in Spiti is usually done via a taxi, though small groups often rent a tempo traveler to cover nearby villages comfortably. Overnight stay in Kaza.

After breakfast, drive towards Tabo, known for its 1,000-year-old monastery. Explore the ancient murals and caves around the monastery. Continue to Dhankar, a picturesque village perched on a cliff, with a historic fort and monastery. The drive offers spectacular views of the Spiti River. A taxi is ideal for this segment due to narrow mountain roads, but a tempo traveler works if you are traveling in a group. Return to Kaza for the night.

Today, take an excursion to the Pin Valley National Park, famous for its wildlife, including snow leopards and ibex. Visit Mudh Village, known for its traditional houses and friendly locals. The route is slightly off the main highway and better accessed via a taxi, but groups often rent a tempo traveler to explore multiple spots in a day. Return to Kaza for an overnight stay.

Start early and drive back towards Manali, with an optional stop at Chandratal Lake. The glacial lake’s turquoise waters are a perfect spot for photography. Continue the journey to Batal, then descend towards Manali. Depending on your group size, a tempo traveler or a taxi can be arranged for the return journey. Overnight stay in Manali.

On the final day, drive back from Manali to Chandigarh. The journey takes around 8–10 hours, so it’s best to start early. You will retrace your route through lush valleys and small towns. A taxi or tempo traveler can be booked for the drop-off at Chandigarh airport, bus stand, or your preferred location, completing your memorable 7-day Spiti adventure.
